SUMMER MATH 2016!

Exercise helps us build strength in our muscles, and our brain is a pretty important muscle -- so let’s make sure you give it a good workout this summer!

Over the next two months, you will choose of the math assignments below. I will be checking in with you periodically as I monitor your progress. I would also like for you to email me once in a while to let me know how you are doing. What challenges have you faced? What concepts were fun for you? What do you want to improve? What new topics are you excited to learn about?

Option #1 - Khan Academy

You have all created a Khan Academy account and have added me as your coach. This summer you will be completing 30% MORE of your mission OR 12 hours . This means you should be mastering or working on mastering at least 30 skills within the two months of summer break. 30% is just the minimum! Feel free to practice more! It will be more exercise for your brain.

Upcoming 7th graders (6th grade mission) - You are responsible for 12 hours OR at least 45% of your mission. Some of the topics are simpler review topics, so I want to make sure that you are pushing yourself to recall as much as possible.

Be sure to challenge yourself any time you can so that you are ready to hit the ground running in September!

Option #2 - Workbook

You may choose a math workbook that you think will best suit your skills (7th grade students should get 6th grade workbooks). If you are having trouble choosing a workbook, below are a few suggestions.

7th grade:
Spectrum Math for Grade 6 OR Spectrum Math for 6-8 OR Singapore Math Workbook 6

8th grade:
Spectrum Math for Grade 7
For SHSAT: Kaplan SHSAT Prep book  OR Barron's New York City SHSAT Prep book
For ISEE/SSAT: Kaplan ISEE/SSAT Prep book

You will hand these workbooks to Sophie at the start of the year in September.
