7th Grade - Like and Unlike Terms

In an algebraic expression, parts separated by plus or minus signs are called TERMS.  The expression 2x - 3y + 8 consists of three terms.  They are 2x, -3y, and 8.

When two terms have identical variable parts -- they consist of the same variables having the same exponents, they are called LIKE TERMS.

You had some practice in class today collecting like terms and simplifying expressions.  You will continue to practice tonight.

Homework: Exercise 4.1 (page 97) #4 (a – d)
AND choose 2 other questions from that page to complete.
Note: If your question has an (a) and (b), you must do both.
